The engineer in this role will support our Propulsion and Power Branch and its team of engineers and technicians supporting multiple customers.  The team designs and tests components for all types of air breathing (reciprocating, gas turbine, etc.) and rocket (mono and bi-propellant liquid, hybrid and solid) propulsion and power generation engines.   Candidate must possess a fundamental technical foundation in one or more of these technology areas that also includes a strong interest/exposure in the fundamental energy transfer components (turbomachinery, combustion, heat exchangers, gearbox, etc.).  Typical projects include conceptual through detail design, analyses, test, evaluation and system level integration.  

As part of this position, candidate will work to establish relationships with internal and external customers in this area.  Candidate will have access to a 7,000 FT2 machining and test center as well as CFDRC's industry leading computational analysis tools.   Candidate will the opportunity to identify, propose and execute tasks for government and commercial customers.     Work areas can range from Modeling & Simulation to System & Component Testing to designing prototypes and low rate initial production efforts.  Candidate will look to compliment other research efforts internally in addition to supporting work for external customers.  This position will be responsible for articulating CFDRC's capabilities and agenda in this area. 

Requirements:

Candidate must be a US Citizen.  Position requires at least a Master's Degree in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering (or similar discipline) and 10 years of industry experience with propulsion and aerospace systems.  Candidate will need to demonstrate familiarity with multiple component/system design and analysis tools as well as selected commercial grade analysis software (CFD, structures, controls, etc.)   Position will require meet eligibility to obtain at least a Secret Clearance. 

Preferred candidate will have a passion for propulsion and power system development and a desire to grow a team. Candidates with experience (or strong interest in) working proposal development and capture along with technical execution is a plus.  Preferred candidate will have exposure to multiple customer sets, including DoD, DoE, NASA and commercial.
